Bluebonnet's Mixed Carotene Beta-Carotene 25,000 IU Soft gels offer one the highest quality antioxidant complexes on the market, Betatene, which includes the safe and natural precursor form of vitamin A, beta-carotene along with other naturally occurring mixed carotenoids (alpha-carotene, zeaxanthin, lutein and cryptoxanthin) from the algae Dunaliella salina harvested in the crystal clean lakes of Whyalla, Australia. Beta Carotene is converted to Vitamin A, an essential nutrient. It has antioxidant activity, which helps to protect cells from damage.

Vitamin A plays a key role in the vision cycle, which beings in the retina when vitamin A combines the protein opsin to form rhodopsin, which are light-absorbing molecules essential to distinguishing the detail, color, and shape of the world around us. Vitamin A also supports gene transcription that occurs during synthesis of new cells as DNA divides and replicates.
